Paula Smith's Family History - Clark

***LAST UPDATED: 24TH OCTOBER 2004***

  • William Clark (b.abt 1797-1886)
  • Malvina Clark (b.abt 1826-1888)

  • William Clark (b.abt 1797-1886)

married Mary in an unknown year. Known children:
  1. Mercy Clark - baptised 1821.
  2. Pamela Clark
  3. Malvina Clark - Born about 1826. Married Isaac Harvey in Newington, London, 1849. Died 1888 in St Thomas' Hospital, London.
  4. Rose Clark
All the children were baptised at the Parish Church in Standon, Hertfordshire, where the family lived.

The baptism records do not have an entry for either Pamela or Rose, but there is an entry for an Emily Clark in 1824. This date matches that for Pamela, so I suspect she was christened as Emily but known as Pamela, certainly when the censuses were taken.

Throughout his life, William worked as a master cordwainer (a shoemaker). The Pigots Directories of 1826-27 and 1839 both list William working as boot and shoe maker.

The 1851 census shows that a granddaughter, Mary Ann Wood, was living with the family. In the 1861 census Mercy was a widow named Wood, so presumably Mary Ann was Mercy's daughter.

William died in 1886 aged 89 years, he was buried in Standon Churchyard.
